In February 2000 the service providers in the NICOLE
network formed their own subgroup, the Service Providers subGroup (SPG). This subgroup
consists of members active as consultants, contractors and technology suppliers
in remediation and investigation of soil and groundwater. Its members are drawn
from consultancies, contractors and other technology providers who are directly
involved with contaminated land remediation, Europe-wide.
The NICOLE Service
Providers Group is steadily growing with new. All SPG members together form a large
“body of knowledge”. In the open atmosphere of the NICOLE network this knowledge
is disseminated.

The SPG meets in conjunction with the NICOLE workshops
held twice annually and in technical meetings between the NICOLE workshops. These
technical meetings typically consist of a visit to a technical facility in the morning
and a meeting of the SPG in the afternoon. The most recent meeting was held in
Gothenburg, Sweden
, on the themes Redevelopment of Derelict Industrial Land and Soil Pollution in
Slide-Sensitive Areas illustrated by the redevelopment of the former shipyard areas
in central Gothenburg and the conditions in the Göta älv river valley. In addition,
a visit was paid to Akzo’s plant north of Gothenburg where a thermal desorption
plant for remediation of mercury and dioxin contaminated soil operates.
The chairman of SPG is currently Bertil Grundfelt (Kemakta,
Sweden
) and vice chairman is Laurent Bakker (Tauw, the
Netherlands
).
Secretary of the group is Elze-Lia Visser.
